I’m going to let you into a little secret about Emmerdale star Anthony Quinlan – he smells delectable.
I met him in the flesh for the second time at the Emmerdale press quiz night and asked him the name of his aftershave, but the aroma left me so giddy, I cannot for the life of me remember what it is called.
You’d think that someone who looked and smelled that good, would be big headed, but when I chatted to Anthony for a three-page interview in the current issue of Soaplife, I was surprised by how down to earth he is.
He puts this down to his roots and told me: ‘I am really close to my family. I am from a working class background and my family are so genuine. They’ve shown me nothing but support and I owe my mum so much. She was the one who told me to pursue acting as a career and her support and love has helped me massively.’
Anthony is an only child and confesses that he is a bit of a ‘mummy’s boy’ who still lives in the place where he was born and bred – namely Salford.
There was some talk of him moving in with co stars Michael Parr and Joe Gill, but Anthony declined on account of being a bit of a home bird who didn’t want to leave Manchester. ‘I would never say never though, we may do that in the future,’ he said.
The more we chatted, the more it dawned on me that there isn’t an ounce of the soap bad boy in the real Anthony Quinlan.
He certainly doesn’t see himself as a sex symbol and explained: ‘Michael Parr who plays Ross, he is a sex symbol and does get a lot of attention from the ladies. They love a bad guy and Michael is on a different level. But me – I would never class myself as a sex symbol.’
That’s exactly what Michael Parr said when we chatted, but then modesty is always the sign of a true sex symbol. That and a really good after shave.
